The Honeymoon - Prep

In less than 24 hours we will be in Germany! We are going to Germany and Denmark (just Copenhagen though) and we are armed with tons of guidebooks and maps.
Katie found this at a vintage paper fair.
Quaint towns, and castles? I can't wait! If you have any recommendations for things to do/see/eat in Berlin, Munich or Copenhagen please email me paperpastries (at) gmail (dot) com
Happy Holidays!

Merry Christmas to me

A couple of weekends ago was the Sunset Junction Holiday Block Party. Even though we were exhausted from the move/the craft fair that weekend, I just had to go. Am I glad I did! Not only was it great to see everyone, but I got to see the new set up at ReForm School and I picked up a little something for myself. Ryan Gosling coloring book, best idea ever?
There are scenes from his most popular movies.
I don't want to color them in I just want to stare at them all day.
My sister doesn't think he's good looking. ????
SO right! Unfortunately for every one else, I got the last one but they might restock soon.

Paris versus New York

I'm sure you've heard of this blog, that got turned into a book- and now is a postcard set! I just had to get it. Some designs are also offered as prints but I couldn't decide on just one. Here are some of my favorites:

The only thing is, when I placed my last order at usps.com I forgot to order more postcard stamps. I will just have to send these in an envelope- they would probably get destroyed going through the post anyway.

USPS.COM

Since mailing out my holiday cards last week, I completely wiped out my postage stamp collection. I know better than to try to get cute stamps from my local post office (they are always out) so I always order online at usps.com

Carina shared her recent usps purchases on instagram, that's where I first saw this stamp dispenser. I thought it was vintage. I love the way it looks!
I chose some old favorites,
and some recently released postage- like the lady bird johnson reissue.
What a beauty :)

Sandy Hook Elementary

I just wanted to say that my thoughts are with those affected by the unimaginable tragedy that happened on Friday. Just like when I heard about Columbine and 9/11 I'll never forget the details of that day. Where I was, who I was with. I was with my dad when we heard the news. He said he couldn't imagine how those parents felt when they had heard, and what it was like rushing to the school. It's such a terrible thing. How could we have prevented this? How can we prevent this in the future? I have no idea. I had to turn off the news because I felt sick to my stomach. Lives lost are never easy to grasp but those of children are so utterly heartbreaking. I am so grateful for my friends and family and will hold them a little closer this holiday season.

Guest Post No. 26

Hi all, my name is Priti Patel and I’m a freelance writer, I usually focus on weddings but I have a love for all things beautiful!  I was going through the Paper Pastries shop and was inspired by the amazing Christmas Mailing Set. I’m very excited to share with you some other things I was inspired by based on the set. I love the sparkle and shine that comes with the holidays!
After stumbling upon this cupcake on Pinterest, I was a little disappointed to find that it was made at a bakery all the way on the other side of the country in Washington.  It was too cute not to share though!  On a brighter note, the gorgeous red dress is available at David’s Bridal and, even though it is technically a bridesmaid dress, I think it makes for the perfect holiday dress.
As creative as I wish I was, I was unfortunately not as blessed as some of you wonderful DIY-ers.  Thankfully there’s Etsy for people like me! I love this wreath and these sparkling silver crochet snowflakes.
I hope I’ve inspired some of you to get into the holiday spirit, ‘tis the season!

Sent with Love No. 16 {The holiday edition}

Last weekend's craft fair went very well. I am still trying to get my house in order- I left my studio room in a sorry state packing for Renegade. Well it was in my best intentions to get that squared away on Monday. But I had an issue with my washing machine, errands to run, and stamp proofs to make. Then Tuesday came and went. And now it's Wednesday 12/12 and I still have not sent out my holiday cards! Terrible, I know. So this morning after breakfast I sat down and wrote my holiday cards. I have some gems this year, from snow and graham, a favorite, sass & peril, hello lucky, kate funk, carolyn suzuki, cavallini, rock scissor paper, dee and lala, and more.
I picked these up from carolyn suzuki in person at Unique LA.
Hello Lucky designs are always at the top of my list too, the detail in this one is incredible.
I think this one is the best- design wise.
I cleaned myself out of my postage collection!

Baby Stationery

My good friends Sasha and Courtney are expecting a baby boy any day now. I am so excited for them! I knew Sasha would need some notecards for thank you notes and baby news so I went on a search to find some. Their baby shower was about 3 weeks before my wedding so I wanted to pick something up, or order online. Is it just me or is everything baby related TOO babyish? It's not like another baby is going to receive it. If you think about it, you are sending these notes to other adults. I just didn't think any of the baby notes I came across fit Sasha so I decided to make some myself. I wrote her and baby's name with a calligraphy pen then turned it into a stamp. It's not necessarily baby-ish but I like it :) You can find them in the shop here.

Life Change

Well, I'm back to work (kind of) and a married woman. A HUGE thank you to all my guest bloggers. I was happy knowing the blog was in good hands while I was away. It's been a whirlwind past few weeks. The wedding was wonderful and I am excited to share photos of the day once I get them.
Right after we got married, Tony and I took a few days to ourselves and spent them in northern California. It was very relaxing and romantic and just what we needed. Then we celebrated Thanksgiving with Tony's family and that weekend we came back to LA. Tony's job needs him on a project in Carlsbad, California, which is about 90 miles south of LA. He went straight there- and I was left to pack up our entire condo AND my work space. Luckily, my parents and Tony's mom were able to help. The movers came and hauled everything away to our new house (see above). It's so weird! We went from one bedroom to a three bedroom, a roof deck to a full backyard, and one parking spot to a full driveway. I am one of those people who live in LA and LOVE it. I never hated on my city the way other people do. I love everything about it and I am so sad to be moving. I think our condo is perfect, and the location has everything I could ever want. But, if Tony can't be there it's pretty much useless to me. I am and will always be a city mouse, but I guess for a little while I'll be a suburb mouse :)
If you or anyone you know is looking for a place to rent in LA, you can check out our condo here. I have a feeling it won't be too long until we are back in LA, even if it's just for the weekend.
Here is a little bit of our backyard. Don't worry, we have a gardner- I do not have a green thumb.
I couldn't wait to get back to blogging, even though I am clearly avoiding unpacking all these boxes.
It's crazy, I never thought we had that much stuff, until I had to move it all. Every room in the house looks like this. Now it's time to get back to business.
A few years ago I made some house moving announcements for my friends Josh and Wendy. We took a picture of their house and I made it into a stamp. That was a more graphic look, and for a while I had been wanting to try out a hand drawn style.
This is it. I fooled around with it for months, kept throwing it away, then coming back to it and finally it was ready.
You can get your own in the shop here, and as a thank you for my blog readers, enjoy 20% off every order this week, just enter "CITYMOUSE" at checkout.

Guest Post No. 25 Omoi Zakka Shop (with discount code!)

Greetings from Philadelphia! Omoi Zakka Shop here, writing today's guest post while the missus is away.

We're a jam packed little gift boutique located just off the Rittenhouse Square shopping & restaurant district in Philadelphia. Established in 2006, we started off calling ourselves Omoi, a Japanese word meaning thoughts and ideas, nuanced with feelings of hope and sincerity. The owner Liz studied abroad at Kansai Gaidai University in Osaka, Japan (not to mention a high school stay in Kobe). She was so enthralled by the level of care and detail in Japanese shopping culture that when she got back, she decided to open a store like you might find there. Later, she was joined by another Kansai Gaidai alum, web coordinator Maggie (that's me!), and since then we've been growing and growing!

The shop staff on Halloween.
We call ourselves a zakka shop, which is another word we picked up in Japan. Zakka shops sell any range of items that have an appealing and conscious design, which are typically small, useful items for your everyday life. For example, why have a school store notebook when instead you can have a thoughtfully designed one that makes you happy every time you pull it out of your bag? Likewise, why bring your lunch in an unreliable plastic container when you can have a dedicated lunch box that's as charming and convenient as it is easy to clean? Our store is full of stuff like that, so naturally we added "Zakka Shop" to our name. But why don't you have a look around the shop to get a better idea of things?

We have a bit of a washi tape obsession.

Our Japanese planners selection back in August for the new school year.

Our Korean open-dated planner selection in time for the new year.

Japanese denim goods and hand crafted wooden brushes from Sweden.

But a paltry sampling of our desktop accessories.

Aside from stationery, we're known for our bento selection and unique kitchen and bar goods.

We find bottle openers make great house warming gifts. :)

Just a peek at some of our accessories, room fragrance, kiri-e prints and the like . . .

We've gotten quite popular for our always changing selection of our Japanese writing utensils.

And of course, we run a pretty consistent blog, which is coincidentally how dear Margaret found us!

If you like us too, visit us at OmoiZakkaShop.com and get 20% OFF your online order with promo code PAPERLOVERS, until DEC 7.
Thanks for reading, and thank you to Margaret for inviting us to guest post. Congratulations on getting married! \^o^/
