Gifted No. 26

You guys have seen the name Erika around the blog a few times. I was introduced to her because she went to college with my sister. She got a job at the art museum in Santa Cruz, so she was there when I went to school. We became good friends while I was in college. Then, she moved away to D.C., then she moved to Baton Rouge, then she moved to Oklahoma, then she moved to Texas. And now...SHE IS MOVING BACK TO CALIFORNIA! Not only that, but to SAN DIEGO. Is that great timing, or what? I just found out and I am SO happy. I'm happy for her and I'm happy for me. I still don't have any friends where I live and Tony is still working like crazy. So her moving back is pretty much the best news that ever was. Being the sweetheart that she is, she also sent me a birthday present! Milchy and Otto got some adorable bowties from Oskar & Klaus. They are going to be so fashion forward, right?

She also surprised me with vintage postage packs.

Aren't these beautiful? You just can't find colors like this anymore.

And the detail! They sure don't make them like they used to.

Is it cheesy to say I looooove these? I do! :)

They are right at home on my writing desk , in a special little tray. Thanks, Erika! You know me so well :)

Shop Update - Vintage Office Paper Packs

After searching far and wide, I've come up with some vintage office paper packs for the shop. I really enjoyed putting these together, everything included is at least 25 years old! It kind of amazes me that there is still stock of this stuff out there. I am trying to find more! There's so many great vintage paper out there that I became overwhelmed trying to find some that was different. I decided to focus on office supply paper. If there's a good response to these, I may make other limited editions sets.

Here are a few envelopes I made from some of the left over paper. I looooove old ledgers. They have the best colors and I love all the lines.

A sampling of some of the pages.

I think what I was most excited about were these vintage pencils and colored pencils. Yes, that pink says "best pink" on it- what a name!

I wanted to mix it up and offer variety. We have large and medium packs, plus a pencil/label set, and finally an assortment of labels- everything included in the packs are 100% vintage.

You can find all varieties of the pack here in the paper pastries shop.

Recent Finds - Paris No. 2

While walking along one afternoon, we happened upon a little office supply shop. Of course I had to pop in "just for a minute." What I found were mini envelopes. I had never seen mini envelopes in the states with a pointed flap. I had to get a few, in a few colors. Tony was worried about my suitcase being really heavy but I thought, how much weight could a few packs of mini envelope add? I know what he really meant to say was "what are you going to use those for" but he knows better ;)

It turns out that these mini envelopes are the PERFECT size to hold instax photos. And it just so happened that I had some instax photos of Paris.

So, I stuck them in there and decorated the front with some blue, white, and red stickers. I think these are too small to send through the post so I stuck them in another card. A cute surprise, i think.

While I had them out (each is a set of 20) I decided to decorate some. I know that eventually I will need a mini envelope with my pen pals name on the front.

Shop Update - Super Cool Alphabet Stamps

Would you believe me if I told you I reserve the term "super cool" for only the most super cool items? I felt it was necessary to break it out for these. I'm obsessed with these geo alphabet stamps.

We're also stocking the number, days of the week, weather set of the same style. Love, right?

These are more official, but cute nonetheless. You can find them in the shop here, and here.

Recent Finds - Renegade San Francisco

I've been a fan of Plastique*s line since I first saw it a few years ago. Recently, while wandering the rows at Renegade SF, these fantastic colors got my eye. Jen of Plastique* and Julie of Magna teamed up to bring fabulous use of design and color to necklace lovers everywhere.

I always have such a hard time deciding in between colors but I kept going back to this one. Isn't she a beauty?

I couldn't be happier with it. I wore it around town one day and literally every girl I talked to (at the coffee shop, dry cleaners, car wash) asked where I found it.

Gifted No. 25

Did you know that this "gifted" series isn't just for gifts I receive? It's also to share some fun gifts I found for friends. When I came across The Folk shop, I immediately thought of Allie and Erika. Allie's fiancĂ© just took the bar exam in California which bodes well for them moving back! Erika just moved to Texas with her boyfriend Matt. I thought they would each enjoy a commemorative necklace :) The shop has tons of options, and you can also choose what size you'd like the state to be. I requested "dainty."
Each necklace came ready to be gifted.
I just got this necklace for my mother in law's birthday. I found it in Solana Beach. I thought it was so cool, but I don't know what it's called.
I had to sneak a gift I received in here since it was a post about necklaces. Donovan presented this to me when we saw each other at Renegade SF. Isn't it so cool?
They are vintage beads on a silver chain. Thanks, Donovan!

Prized Possession - My letter sweater

I have a few things that really make me happy. I've started this new column here to showcase these items. Today is the first installment of a "Prized Possession."

I have noticed I have quite a few letter writing/envelope pins. I decided to put them all on my "letter (writing) sweater." I call it a letter sweater, even though it's a cardigan :) This sweet little laser cut envelope is from the twenty fingers on etsy. Their shop is currently on vacation but they are returning later this month. They were very nice to work with and I recommend their shop.

I saw this envelope enamel pin on swiss miss and just had to have it.

Isn't it cool? You can find it here.

This is my favorite. It was a much appreciated gift from Carina.

The LWA patch that started it all. How do you like my flair? I love this cardigan even though it's seen better days. I've written some of my best letters while wearing it :)

Recent Finds - Santa Cruz

I went to college in Santa Cruz, California. I fell in love with the town for so many reasons. The laid-back atmosphere, the beautiful campus, the people I met there, and the friendly, independent shops. One of my favorites, introduced to me by my friend Jessica, was Darco. It's a small office supply shop that's just the best. I long to find another shop like it in Southern California, but nothing comes close. After Renegade San Francisco I got to spend a few days in Santa Cruz. Visiting Darco was definitely on my list. I had every intention to take some photos of the shop but as soon as I saw these colored notepads, I had to grab up one in every color!

To add to the insanity these were only .75 cents each. What?! I stocked up. I try to give this place as much business as I can. I want them to be around forever.

I also found these great to do lists. Also, under $1 each.

I've been using these to write notes + lists- I am going to decorate them with stamps to send some letters too.

A part of my haul :) I love you, Darco!

Shop Update - Mini Envelope Punch

These mini envelope punches are the cutest! I just love using them for little notes and craft projects.

We have three different punches, which each make a different shaped envelope. They each measure about an inch wide.

I've been having fun making mini envelopes out of patterned paper.

You could use the mini envelopes to make announcements. Use your imagination! I just suggested the above idea to a client- but it was rejected. C'est la vie. I used an envelope punch to announce our engagement. Find the punches in the shop here.

Paper Pastries Press

I was pretty excited to find this in my inbox. Inside Out, an Australian magazine has named Paper Pastries as a blog to book mark. Our products have been featured in magazines before, but never our blog. I appreciate that Lee Tran did her research and really dug into the archives of each of the blogs she mentioned.

Other blogs mentioned- send more mail, art deco buildings, lovely package, and folies du bonheur.

I am going to try to find a physical copy, I'd love to frame it!

Hey, San Diego!

Just a reminder that tomorrow, we and a few other etsy shops, are going to be set up at the West Elm in San Diego from 1-6pm. Hope to see you there! RSVP here. I don't have a facebook account, which is why I didn't rsvp but I will be there :)

Shop Update - New Small Object

I just love these stamps by the Small Object! They are so sweet. Katie and I were talking about making the online shop more "shopable" and she suggested combining some products into one listing.  So I reshot some product photos for them, and here they are.
