Purina Purpose Litter Review + Cat Cave Giveaway

Otto and Milchy don't go outside, so we go through a lot of litter. I feel like I've tried every litter there is. I've found a few that I like, but none were perfect. When I was asked if I'd be willing to try a new litter that was going to be introduced in November, I said "Absolutely." I was sent a new kind of litter: Purpose, from the makers of Purina. In addition to the litter, the package included all kinds of presents for me and the cats. A Tory Burch wallet, with a coupon for another box of free litter, a $25 target gift card, lint rollers, and a handmade wool cat cave.
The box of litter doesn't look like any litter I've seen before. It's not gigantic and is pretty cute.
Of all the items in the box, Otto was most interested in his new litter.
I was a bit nervous to try a new litter. There have been times when Otto didn't like a new litter, so he found another place to go! I cleaned out the old litter, washed and dried their clever cat litter box, and put in the Purpose litter.
This litter is scented, and though it's 99.6% dust free, there was still a bit of dust that came up out of the box when I poured it. I'm not crazy about the scent, it kind of smells like dryer sheets. We had guests the first week we tried the litter, and they weren't bothered by it one bit. But- the cats seem to love it! They tried it out right away. I left it, to see how it handled the smell. I didn't smell anything! If I hadn't seen him go in to use the litter, I wouldn't have known that he just had. It clumps well, and the cats like it. For me, if they made an unscented version, it would be perfect! In conclusion- I will definitely be buying more Purpose cat litter. And there are three different scents, so maybe I will like one of the other scents more. Purpose can only be purchased at Target, it's currently sold out at Target.com.
The cats also loved the cat cave they sent, from etsy maker kivikis. Milchy got it in right away, and then Otto took it over and wouldn't let her come in! They could both fit, but he is just being greedy with is bed.
I do think the green color of the bed looks great with his coat and eyes.
They also sent me another cat cave for a giveaway! The bed is wool, so it's not recommended for people with allergies to wool.

  1. I would love to enter the contest for my kitty, Miso Chen! Miso is four years old and I swear she is half human. When I am feeling down, hugging Miso makes me feel so much better. She would love a cave to sleep in during the cold winter days. #misogram

  2. We have two kitties: Dante and Comma. They can be found on Instagram using the hashtag #danteandcomma. They would love to have this little kitty cave to hide from their new dog brother (even though he just wants to play.)

  3. Thanks for the litter review, it's always good to hear the truth about new products from someone who has actually used them. We just adopted two kittens, who are almost 8 weeks old now, Abigail and Tigger. They are little bundles of energy and this cat cave would be so cool for them to play and sleep in. We have one other cat, a 3 year old solid black sweetie named Sheldon. He's not terribly impressed with the new additions, but he will come around. Maybe he could hide from the little ones in the cave! I will check out this litter at Target soon.

  6. What can I say, 3 is the new 2! Even though Zelda is the oldest, we call her the baby because she's so small. Rufus is quickly growing larger than Max, so I can't wait to see how that pans out. They are still duking it out to see who's number 1. And even though Max is a little tubby, he has the funniest squeakiest meow I've ever heard. I love my cats!

  7. I'd love to win this cat cave for Ma! She's our 8th foster cat and her quirky diva attitude has made her our first forever cat. We spoil her with so much attention, I do think she'd love to escape from us in this little cave!

  8. Ollie and Pig are my neighbor's cats. We catsit them when their humans are out of town. Pig loves receiving spanks and gets rowled up by it. She never chews her treats since she hoovers them. Ollie stares you down until you play twine or laser with him. He also likes being carried around in a reusable bag around the apartment. Pig and Ollie have a love hate relationship but they get along 99% of the time. We love visiting them...and their humans too.

  9. My cat Lila would absolutely love this cave. She has a habit of making anything and everything into her own cave including the box spring on my bed. We rescued Lila about a year ago and fell in love with her and her quirks immediately. She loves to play fetch, knock pictures off the mantle, eat fancy cat food, and sleep under the covers with her head on the pillow. And did I mention she loves caves? -Regan Stotts

  10. OH MY GOODNESS!!! HOW HAVE I NOT FOUND THIS BLOG SOONER? YOU ARE MY CAT LOVING STATIONERY OBSESSED SOUL SISTER. Okay now that my minor freak out is over
My cat Belton is amazing. We adopted him this past summer from a horribly sad shelter. He weighs almost 15 pounds and has so much fluffy black fur. His favorite food is popcorn (and he loves to chew on my calligraphy pens...grr) and every morning at 5 AM he wakes me up to snuggle and pet him (so annoying it is cute!) He would love this cat cave. Thanks for the great blog and giveaway

  11. My grey cat, Weasley (named during the Harry Potter craze) is a well fed gentleman who thinks he is never pet enough. When he is not lounging on the back of the couch. he likes to romp around outside and keep watch over our bird feeder.

  12. My cat lily is furless, she is a sphynx. So of course her favorite place to lounge is on a heated pet pad, or inside my wool comforter. She would LOVE this cave! neyabenz(at)gmail(dot)com

  13. My cat Periwinkle (Sweet P) is a social butterfly. She loves to adventure around our busy street and stroll behind complete strangers. People love to bring her back to my doorstep. She is always looking for a new cave to escape from my dogs if she HAS to stay inside. :)

  14. We have two tabbies--Julius and Frida. I adopted them when they were about 8 weeks old from a lady who found them next to a dumpster covered in fleas and I have been swooning over them ever since! They're now 10.5 yrs old and still acting like teenagers. Julius is very naughty and rascally and Frida is a sweetheart. Seriously, she can do no wrong! It is funny how they came from the same litter, but have such different personalities! Julius is a bit of a hog and I know he would try to claim this cat cave for himself, but I'd love it if Frida could find a place to hide from him. :)

  15. What a great giveaway! My kitten Theo is 5 months old. I adopted him from an orphan kitten project about three months ago. He is a spotted grey tabby domestic shorthaired cat. He is sweet, clever, & pretty mellow. He loves to play with my mother's seven year old bichon frise, Jubilee. She & Theo are best friends. Theo is growing up so fast, & I am so thankful I have him :)

  16. Hi! Thank you so much for your take on the new Purpose from Tidy Cats litter! I just got an email from Purina about it and it intrigued me. So as a Libra, the first thing I do is going to search for other people's thoughts on it!! (I have to research everything!!! lol) Anywho!!! On to my two baby boys. They've been with us for a short while, but I couldn't imagine my life without them. Buster Cat and Mau Mau Lewis were adopted from my local NO KILL!!! Humane Society in April of this year. We originally went to adopt one cat to add to our family until we got there and the staff showed us videos and pictures of the two of them playing and sleeping together. During their stay there they had bonded. So....we could NOT break up that bond and adopted them both! Buster has white long hair with 2 gray patches above his eyes (permanent groucho marx eyebrows) and Mau Mau is a Russian Blue type. Mau Mau is more mature at 4 years old, and Buster is immature at 3 haha. They are my world. Their favorite activities include running around the house like wild cats at 3 in the morning, coming to bed and snuggling with us until morning after they wear themselves out, trying to catch that devilish red light, sleeping in comfort, and eating Purina Beyond! I wish I could post pictures of them....like they say a picture says a thousand words (although I feel like I've written a thousand words already!) Anywho....thanks so much for the chance to win a very stylish bed for my (not)spoiled boys and for providing an open and honest review of one of the most important items an indoor cat momma needs---Litter! Ps...Otto & Milchy (fantastic names if I do say so) make excellent feline models.

  17. Thanks for the review on the litter, I will have to try it. I'm impressed with all of the details on the box, it's so cute. My cat, Humphrey, is a Russian blue mix and he's about 7. He loves terrorizing my two pugs and corgi. In his spare time he's usually hiding in the set of lockers we have, or chasing birds.

  18. Hi thanks so much for the little review! I'm still trying to see what the stuff looks like before I purchase it! I am currently using the crystal litter, but our cat Olivia loooves to throw it all over the bathroom so when we hop out of the shower, we get it on our clean feet :') so maybe this would be a great alternative! Will definitely have to look into it. Olivia is our 9 year old kitty, she's a tuxedo, I found her as a kitten in the yard alone, at my grandmothers house, she was scared and really loud, but I took her in and she's my fur baby now! Don't need kids just her! Haha,
If you're interested in seeing her, this is her laying on my lap as I watch TV!

  19. I have been through four of the Secret Garden scent, and all I have to say is there is no secret every time one of my three cats takes a poop. I have to re-bury, burn incense, and use Fabreeze room spray. I have only been disappointed in one other dustless litter, which was the new Tidy Cats. I hate the dust, but if it covers the smell better, then I will have to go back to it. I cannot sit in the living room of my apartment due to the smell from my cat boxes. I only have three cats, but it only takes one poop to smell up the whole house. There is nothing Secret about my Litter Garden. :-P
